I've developed a file manager for simfiles and I figured others might also want to make use of it. You can learn all about it and download it from http://sites.google.com/site/itgsync/.

I built this as an iTunes-like application to help me browse through my simfiles and quickly copy them from/to my USB key, either when I'm at home or when I bring my laptop with me to my local machine. Hopefully that sounds useful to some of you too.

And no, despite the name it has nothing to do with fixing the timing of files. Think "Sync to USB" instead. Anyway I thought ITGSync was a cool name, so there it is.

Let me know if you have any problems downloading, installing, or using it.

UPDATE 01/03/2010: I've already been told that there is a Windows 7 problem. Hopefully I will be able to track it down ASAP (having access to a Windows 7 machine would help, but I'll try my best without...). If anyone else wants to try it on Windows 7 (or Vista) and forward details about their success/failure to itgsync@gmail.com I would appreciate it.

UPDATE 01/03/2010: It's official - part of the code does not work with Windows 7. It's some sort of 64-bit compatibility problem between Windows and one of the DLL's in ITGSync. Vista probably has the same issue. I won't be able to sort this out without access to a Windows 7 machine. Fortunately I'll soon have access to a computer with Windows 7 that I will be able to use to test compatibility issues more thoroughly. I'll try to make 64-bit compatiibility part of the next release.

UPDATE 01/05/2010: I tested on a 32-bit Vista Home edition SP1 computer today, and everything worked OK. So that leaves 64-bit Vista and probably all editions of Windows 7 to investigate. Stay tuned!

UPDATE 02/15/2010: Version 1.1.0.0 released! It contains a few new sorting and filtering features, more information in the song views, and most importantly, the ability to length-patch (and un-patch!) .ogg music files! No fixes yet for Windows 7 or Vista compatibility, though. Just be a man and use XP. Go get it

You know, it's interesting, I was just saying I wish there was a way I could see all my songs in one location like that...

That being said, it installed fine, but when I tried to set up the source directory it crashes. I am running Windows 7 as Admin with UAC turned off. I am assuming I am supposed to use my Songs folder from OpenITG as the source directory?

Hmmm that's a shame. I've only tested it on XP machines so I'm not entirely suprized it has Windows 7 (and probably Vista) problems. I should add that disclaimer to my site for the time being at least, thanks for the info.

To help fix the problem, can you send me some more info about the error you saw? Email a screenshot of the error message to itgsync@gmail.com if you can. If it still exists in Windows 7 (which I doubt), you can also check the Windows application error log under Administrative Tools > Event Viewer > Application for error messages. Thanks!

As for the folder you choose as your "source" directory, it can be any folder you want, but your OpenITG Songs folder would be a good choice.

Same thing happens in Vista. Here's the error log. I can send a picture of it crashing if you really want, but it's pretty lacking in additional information. Just a generic "ITGSync has stopped working" message.

Yeah, I suppose that was the more important detail if we're both using 64-bit.

Wow, this looks really useful for simfile management. I had always daydreamed about a simpler form of this built into the songwheel.

Curious - what happens if a file is incorrect? ie the .ogg is named incorrectly in the SM. That would be really useful if it gave a warning/error message.

That specific situation should not cause a problem for ITGSync. I actually don't think it causes a problem for Stepmania or ITG USB files either, but I could be wrong (maybe if you're hacking songs onto a machine?). Anyway I like your warning/error message idea, so I've added it to my extremely long todo list.

What he said.

Having just finished my first 'proper' ITGPS2 hack using community simfiles, I can attest to how the ITGPS2 game is really really really picky in comparison to every other SM build I've seen. Not just with ogg files, but pngs, etc.

Thanks for adding it to the 'todo' list.

sounds like you have a pretty clear direction on where you want this to go. I like the ideas you have laid out for new features. Good luck, and keep it up!

Also this program does not work in Windows 7 32-bit either. I don't know if you've had any reports in 32-bit or only 64-bit so far, but I just thought I'd let you know.

wow this is an idea i had also had for a long time, great work!
I would like to see simfile artist as an available column in the list though, as alot of us will have duplicates by different simfile artists.

Other than that you are doing an amazing job!!!

Thanks. The "#CREDIT" .sm field is the one that people usually put the stepfile artist's name in, and that's already in ITGSync as the "Credit" column. Basically all of the .sm tags that I thought someone might want to sort on are already present. But it would be really easy for me to add all of the ones I excluded (like #CDTITLE, #LYRICSPATH...) so I plan to go back and do that eventually, and then you can just hide any columns you don't care about.
